It's been quite a while since I updated my little corner of 'the internets' and so I feel obliged to do so now as I strive to avoid doing actual work....

I’m sad to say that the League of Ascension has come full circle and is no more. It was a good laugh and I met with some excellent characters that I plan to keep in touch with for a long time to come.

Since my last update real life commitments have taken up nearly all of my time, reducing my hours in game drastically. This has mean that to keep myself amused and in the loop I’ve been looking forward. During the last few weeks I've been beefing up my character with the possible view to making the dramatic wallet-decreasing-leap from Raven to Tengu. This upgrade would be intended to maximize my level 4 grinding efficiency significantly and thus my isky intake per hour, time is money after all, but we shall see. Before I depart with my hard earned currency there are still a few skills I’d like to max as well as the chance of a move to null sec which would in turn render the purchase near pointless.

A shinny new toy?
Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I am also in need of a new corp. I've got my eyes open and am on the hunt for a corp that can teach me some more pew pew skills. It seems I’ve developed a taste for shooting at other players. Unfortunately I've flown more PvE missions than I care to say and I think it’s probably about time for a change.  I'm in a slightly fiddly position where I've only the one character and naturally I need this char to earn me iskies to pay for my shenanigans. I ideally need to find a corp either close to a decent and accessible agent or one that pays rather nicely, the latter being of course, the preferable option.

I've stumbled across a few possibilities but will bide my time for now as once I make the decision I want it to be the right one and for the foreseeable future. Any suggestions are always welcome.

Tonight saw the first official Corp fight club with the winner taking home a 'Worm' kindly donated a few weeks back by one of our Veteran players.

The other rules of fight club not inspired by the movie:

- T1 frigates only.
- T1 Rigs only.
- T1 and T2 modules allowed.
- All ammo types allowed.
- Players must have a 'point' in one of their mid slots.
- Players warping out must return within 2 minutes.
- Your decided frigate cannot be changed, only re-rigged. 10 minutes will be allowed for this.
- If a player doesn’t return within an allocated time rule then they forfeit the match.
- The fight ends when a player surrenders or the ship enters structure.

The prize up for grabs
Tonight's match saw 7 rounds of fighting take place with the winner of each round being awarded a single point. These points would eventually form a cumulative total giving a grand winner at the end. The ship of choice it would seem was the beast that is the Rifter. Since the start of the year I've been trying to get good with this ship as it requires far more juggling of modules then any Caldari frigate hull I've ever flown. Not to mention a whole host of different ammo types to get to grips with.

Round 1
Me - Rifter Vs. Adidasler - Tristan

For this first round I immediately turned on my DCU and got in close using an AB to draw range before entering into a tight orbit around the Tristan. As i circled I set the scram, guns and nos on target and began to chip away at the Tristan's shields. My own ship's were slowly beginning to approach armor and so I turned off the ab to save on cap ready to cycle my armor rep to keep the incoming damage under control. My dps and damage tanking paid off with me taking the first match win.

The Tristan at work

Round 2
Caldobar - Rifter Vs. Spiounos Plsoglentzidis - Rifter

As I watched from the side lines both ships entered close orbits around one another with Spiounos's Rifter throwing out huge damage making short work of his opponents shields. The structure shortly followed giving Spiounos victory in this round.

Round 3
Caldobar - Rifter Vs. Adidasler - Tristan

This match I must admit I could only monitor for a short time as both ships quickly moved out of my stationary rifters target locking range. The round was quite drawn out with a good fight from both parties. However, Adidasler eventually broke through the Rifter's shield and armor giving him victory.

Round 4
Spiounos Plsoglentzidis - Rifter Vs Me - Rifter.

Feeling naturally nervous and excited at the chance to take on our CEO's alt, I charged for the same 1000m orbit as before. After some intense juggling of modules Spiounos's rifter cut through my now failing armor repair (cap issues on my part) as I only just began to approach his armor hp. In hindsight when I saw the ammo struggling to bring his shields down I should have reloaded with EMP and started overheating before I was on my last 25% of armor.... *sigh*  The match point went to Spiounos.

Rifters were the most popular choice for pew-pew antics

Round 5
Caldobar - Rifter Vs. Adidasler - Tristan

Re-rigged and juggled the Rifter went up against the Tristan once more. Trying to keep range the Rifter followed in hot pursuit taking damage from the Tristan’s missiles until eventually closing enough range to allow the guns to hit. Once the Rifter caught the Tristan the match was soon over with Caldobar taking this victory.

Round 6
Caldobar - Rifter Vs. Me  - Rifter

This time loaded with EMP ammo I approached my target in the same tried and tested manner as before. Both ships were ammo fitted for a close quarters match it would seem and our guns came to bare at an orbit radius varying between 1 and 2km's. Cutting though his shields quickly I soon began to struggle with breaking his armor tank. Trying to keep my cool I turned off my guns and loaded in some more Hail ammo. I could tank the incoming damage but with my cap ever decreasing I wasn’t sure. Overheating my three 150mm autocannons I managed to just break into structure, claiming the match point.

Round 7
Me - Rifter Vs. Adidasler - Tristan

Knowing that he had used speed before to try to keep range allowing him to deal maximum damage I immediately approached the Tristan turning the overheat on instantly, boosting the Rifter to just over the 1000m/s mark. Taking damage I plowed on through the flack knowing that if I could bare range I could web, nosferatu and get the armor repair on. After a tense fight to close distance resulting in me nearly completely burning out the AB I broke the Tristan’s tank and took a final victory.

Final Scores

+1 - Caldobar
+2 - Spinous Plsoglentzidis (retired early, but would have most likely won!)
+1 - Adidasler
+3 - Me

With a bit of luck, excellent tutoring, dedicated skill training and numerous hours spent sparring with Adidasler, I somehow managed to win myself a lovelly new ship.

HMS Cock Puncher did me proud

The most amusing thing is I don’t have any Gallante frigate skills so I cant actually fly it yet....something I will remedy very very quickly in the next 24 hours. This new toy has got lots of plex running to do in combination with my Cheetah. On a more serious note, my thanks to everyone that was involved in tonight’s shinanigans. Hopefully we'll see some more faces getting involved soon at the second official fight club!

23 Jan 2011
Several skills, ships and isk later my little blog has gained its own page. I hope to use this site to document my experience through the abyss of eve and back. Whilst hopefully emerging wiser and richer from it all with or indeed more likely, without my ship intact....

For those of you who haven't flown with me, I opperate a 7 month old character who's bumbled around the forge trying his hand at various different forms of income. Originally falling into mining (through an accidental application to a mining corp -_-) and promtly moving to PvE with some basic PvE training and roams in the more recent months. Recently I've felt the need to have a break from the level four grind and have decided to try my hand at some exploration for a bit of variation in the mighty Cheetah.

Behold, the mighty Cheetah, revel in its T2 awesomeness!
Armed with a Sisters Launcher and probes I set out with optimistic hope for some good finds. The first evening was however somewhat fruitless, with only a mere 10 mil profit made and no escalations. Not great, but it gave me a chance to get to grips with probing (something I havent done since my first days in Eve and the tutorial missions). It revealed to me just how many wormholes there are in high sec - the damn things are everywhere!

m0rg5 - accidental wormhole finder extraordinaire!
Today I had more 'luck', a term a use losely at best considering the outcome...

Upon finding a combat site I set out in a Caracal to enter into the drone mission. Upon popping the final frig my first escalation notification appeared to my delight. To try to speed things up I drop the Caracal back at my station and brush the dust from my faithful level 3 runner - the Drake.

After clearing room after room I get an unexpected final expedition update in my journal asking me to travel to low sec - there's no mention of this in the guides but after hearing the tales of riches from my corp mates I decide to take the slow boat past the warnings and into the unknown.

Here be pirates.

Just in case things go to hell I ping around the system making various safe spots before embarking on the final room. I pull out local chat, set the scanner to 360 degress, switch to my PVP dedicated overview and get the bookmarks ready. I'm good to go. I'd also trained to use ECM drones after a little incident involving myself and a Brick squad utterly trouncing my poor T1 cruiser. Warp scrams are a real pain, especially when there comming from a couple of Tengus and lots of T2 hulls, but i digress...

Upon landing the site is full of precariously placed junk with the cans I want to loot nestled inbetween. The realisation that warping out at speed could prove troublesome sets in. With the promise of cash and a reward for all my work I press on, constantly spamming the scan button and watching local. The residents of this corner of eve are having a debate as to which nation is responcible for the best PvP players and so I hope they are distracted, bored and not aware of me. I clear the first three containers and all are empty, all targets that were once in the room are now nothing but wrecks. The scan is still empty and the debate in local rages on as I manually tip-toe through the debris.

As I reach the final container a spawn of 6 frigs appear instantaniously. Knowing I have spent far to long in one place before one of the residents notices me, I desperately try to clear the room. With 2 frigs remaining the scan picks up 3 ships approaching.

I cut my loses and immediately align for my first safe bookmark. I wait for them to land to ensure they are not passing by, before hitting the warp button and making like a tree (and yes that is a back to the future reference). Landing at my first safe I immeadiatly align to my second and incredibly quickly the gang lands on me. They're quick, but not quick enough.

I jump to my second safe and go for a cold warp to the gate that will take me back to the safety of high sec.  Landing I hammer the jump button, warping through the small pirate gate camp that has appeared.

'Old faithful'
I survived the pirate invasion but lost the loot. Not the outcome I wanted but the Drake will live to fight another day, which is good enough for me. Here's hoping that my next little venture ends with something worth while!

Over and Out.
